Top 5 Most Dangerous Intersections in Boylston Explained
#5: 328 Shrewsbury Street
Over eleven months in the year 2014 alone, there were four distinct accidents in the intersection by 328 Shrewsbury Street in Boylston. Each accident had two cars involved. One person was seriously injured. Here is a snapshot of the intersection in question:
The intersection above links a sequestered road with a heavily traveled throughway. Drivers pulling onto Shrewsbury Street need to mind the slope of the hill when it’s raining out. Since water flows downhill, drivers may spin out their tires when attempting to merge with fast, incoming traffic.
#4: 1378 Main Street
There were fewer accidents on 1378 Main Street than the Shrewsbury intersection; however, there were more non-fatal injuries. For drivers headed through this area, be sure to mind the blind spot that the road’s fork creates.
The blindspot provided by the shrubs creates a natural recipe for disaster with the high speeds typical of cars on waterfront throughways. After passing the fork, make sure to enjoy the beautiful lakeside views along Route 70.
#3: Shrewsbury Street and Sewall Street Intersection
In 2014, this intersection had an uptick in accidents, injuries, and the number of cars involved compared to the previous two. Like the former junctions, Shrewsbury and Sewall Streets join a slower road with a faster road.
The difference is larger in this case, however, because one street is residential while the other is public in nature. The other intersections had roads which were less residential than Sewall, leading to a lower difference in speeds and number of accidents, overall. Additionally, this intersection features a larger combination of stop signs and junctions, increasing the chances of an accident.
#2: Main Street, Route 70, Route 140 Intersection
Clocking in at the second most dangerous intersection in Boylston, the junction on Main Street has a marked increase in injuries compared to the first three intersections. With two interstate roads convening, the risk of an accident is very high. Be sure to exercise extra caution if this intersection is a part of your trip.
#1: School Street, East Temple Street Intersection
If you’re planning on playing golf at the Cyprian Keyes Golf Club, take notice: you’ll be traveling by the most dangerous intersection in Boylston. There were ten accidents here over the study period, half of which led to injuries. Despite being a wooded area, the intersection is open and offers adequate vision, but a number of accidents over the recent years paint a different picture.
